Program Notes
Tonight, we celebrate the best parts of what music can do — bring people together, spark joy, and build community. Whether you’ve been with us for years or this is your first time hearing the Springfield Chamber Chorus, we’re thrilled to share this evening with you.
Our program tonight was designed to reflect harmony in all its forms — the literal blend of voices, the camaraderie among singers, and the shared experience between performer and audience. Each piece offers a moment of connection, from playful rhythms and rich harmonies to heartfelt texts that remind us of the beauty in everyday life.
We’re especially grateful to our friends and partners at Mother’s Brewing Company for hosting us in such a lively and welcoming space. Sharing music outside of the traditional concert hall helps us fulfill our mission: to make choral art accessible, meaningful, and a little bit unexpected.
Thank you for supporting live music and for being part of our story. Enjoy a drink, share a laugh, and let the music do what it does best — bring harmony to us all.

Song Lyrics
Angelus Domini – Casciolini
Angelus Domini descendit de coelo
The angel of the Lord came down from heaven
et accedens revolvit lapidem
and approaching rolled away the stone
et sedit super eum
and sat on it
et dixit mulieribus:
and said to the women,
Nolite timere
Do not be afraid,
scio enim quia crucifixum quaeritis.
for I know that you seek the one who was crucified.
Iam surrexit—
He has already risen—
venite et videte locum
come and see the place
ubi positus erat Dominus.
where the Lord was laid.
Alleluia.
O Vos Omnes – Victoria
O vos omnes qui transitis per viam,
attendite et videte:
O all you who walk by on the road,
attend and see:
Si est dolor similis sicut dolor meus.
If there be any sorrow like my sorrow.
Attendite, universi populi,
et videte dolorem meum.
Attend, all people of the world,
and see my sorrow:
Si est dolor similis sicut dolor meus.
If there be any sorrow like my sorrow.
Peace, Come Away – Stanford
Peace; come away: the song of woe
Is after all an earthly song:
Peace; come away: we do him wrong
To sing so wildly: let us go.
Come; let us go: your cheeks are pale;
But half my life I leave behind:
Methinks my friend is richly shrined;
But I shall pass; my work will fail.
Yet in these ears, till hearing dies,
One set slow bell will seem to toll
The passing of the sweetest soul
That ever look’d with human eyes.
I hear it now, and o’er and o’er,
Eternal greetings to the dead;
And “Ave, Ave, Ave,” said,
“Adieu, adieu” for evermore
Exultate Deo – Palestrina & Poulenc
Exultate Deo, adjutori nostro,
Sing joyfully to God our strength;
Jubilate Deo Jacob.
shout in triumph to the God of Jacob.
Sumite psalmum, et date tympanum
Raise a song and sound the timbrel,
Psalterium jucundum cum cythara
the sweet-sounding harp and the lute;
Buccinate in neomenia tuba
blow the trumpet at the new moon,
Insigni die solemnitatis vestrae.
when the moon is full, on our feast.
Ring Out, Wild Bells – Alexander
O Earth, O Earth, return!
Ring out, wild bells, to the wild sky,
The flying cloud, the frosty light:
The year is dying in the night;
Ring out, wild bells, and let him die.
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
Ring out the grief that saps the mind,
For those that here we see no more;
Ring out the feud of rich and poor,
Ring in redress to all mankind.
Ring out the want, the care, the sin,
The faithless coldness of the time;
Ring out, ring out my mournful rhymes,
But ring the fuller minstrel in.
Ring out old shapes of foul disease;
Ring out the narrowing lust of gold;
Ring out the thousand wars of old,
Ring in the thousand years of peace.
Day of Fire and Sun – DiOrio
Oh day of fire and sun,
Pure as a naked flame,
Blue sea, blue sky and dun
Sands where he spoke my name;
Laughter and hearts so high
That the spirit flew off free,
Lifting into the sky
Diving into the sea;
Oh day of fire and sun
Like a crystal burning,
Slow days go one by one,
But you have no returning.
