Composition Contest!

The Springfield Chamber Chorus, a 40-member professional-calibre a capella ensemble is seeking scores for their first annual Composition Competition. Composers are invited to submit unpublished, unperformed works for SATB or SATB divisi choir. There are no thematic or topic restrictions.

DEADLINE December 31, 2021

One 1st Prize will receive a $500 cash prize and a recording of the premiere performance, which is scheduled to occur in Springfield, MO in Spring 2022. Additional pieces may also be awarded and/or performed at the discretion of the jury. Winner(s) are invited to the premiere but are responsible for their own travel costs, and are not required to be in attendance.

The composer shall retain all intellectual property and copyrights pertaining to this piece; the SCC shall not have to pay the composer any additional fees or royalties for any recordings, audio or audio-visual, of this piece nor SCC shall not have to pay any additional fee to the composer for any audio and/or audio-visual recordings of the performance. The decision of the jury is final. The jury may, at its discretion, withhold any or all prizes if submitted works fail to meet the set criteria. Jury members can also give special mentions to any submitted piece. Current SCC singers, board members, and their relatives are not eligible to compete.

Preference will be given to scores that are between 3-7 minutes in length for unaccompanied SATB choir (divisi is fine). Additional instrumentation may or may not be available. Pieces must be unpublished (self-published is fine) and un-premiered. There are no restrictions as to composer age, or date of composition. Women, composers of color, students, and residents of the Ozarks are particularly encouraged to apply. Composers may submit more than one piece, but must pay a separate entry fee for each piece.
